June is Colic Awareness Month, a time during which horse lovers come together to focus on learning about and raising awareness for equine colic prevention. The American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) estimates more than 900,000 horses in the United States will experience an episode of colic this year. Despite these frighteningly high numbers, there is quite a bit you can do to minimize your horse's risk of colic.
While our mission at NIGHTWATCH® is to to provide critical first alerts for early intervention to ultimately to help save horses' lives, there are numerous other companies also working to prevent colic. And this month, we'd like to salute a few of organizations making a difference for our equine friends.
SmartPak. SmartPak's line of equine supplements are just that — smart. Specifically, their ColiCare supplements provide the ultimate in hindgut support for your horse, and if you order any ColiCare eligible supplements in SmartPaks, fill out a quick application and meet their annual wellness requirements, they'll enroll you in a wellness program that provides up to $7,500 in colic surgery reimbursement.

This widely available, over-the-counter product allows horse owners and barn managers easy access to soothing stomach distress at the first sign of their horse's discomfort.
